Wildfire Near Haddam Reported Contained, Evacuations Cancelled

UPDATE 10 PM

Late coming, but the event is ever changing. The fire in and around Haddam is contained, but there are still areas that are burning. Timber and creek lines are the most areas that are still burning. Any residents that evacuated due to fire threat and/or smoke can return if they do choose. Personnel will be on site thru the night, and those that have went home to rest would be back out in a heartbeat, if needed. The situation will be evaluated at daylight tomorrow morning, with plans of how to proceed being decided. As always, if you see something of concern, please notify dispatch.

The Kansas Forest Service is responding to a wildfire south of Haddam, in Washington county. The forest service is classifying the fire as a “major incident” with crews both local and from other areas in Kansas responding to the fire.

With strong southernly winds blowing the fire, reports indicate that Haddam is being evacuated. KFS also reports that two structures have been lost to the fire, which is currently zero percent contained.

According to the Faith Connection Covenant Church in Washington, they have shelter for anybody who is displaced by the fire. They can be contacted at (785) 510-6008. Earlier in the day they prepared food and drinks for firefighters responding to the wildfire.

A Red Flag Warning was in effect for Washington County earlier in the day but has been allowed to expire.
