Cloud Co. Comm. College Theatre Department Presenting ‘The Taming of the Shrew’

Cloud County Community College’s theatre department will present William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” May 2-5 at the Brown Grand Theatre in downtown Concordia. The May 2-4 performances will begin at 7 p.m., with the May 5 performance a 3 p.m. matinee.

In “The Taming of the Shrew,” the “shrew” is Katherina, the eldest daughter of Baptista, a lord in Padua. Numerous men, including Gremio and Tranio, deem Katherina an unworthy option for marriage because of her assertiveness and willfulness. On the other hand, men such as Hortensio and Gremio are eager to marry her younger sister Bianca. Baptista has sworn Bianca is not allowed to marry until Katherina is wed, which motivates Bianca’s suitors to work together to find Katherina a husband. The plot thickens when Lucentio falls in love with Bianca.

The cast includes Rachael Wood, Washington, as Katherina; Zachary Wohlbrandt, Scandia, as Petruchio; Keegan Grogan, Concordia, as Grumio; Brenton Phillips, Concordia, as Baptista; Ryah Klima, Concordia, as Bianca; Taylor Holte, Mayetta, as Lucentio; Grace Beikman, Linn, as Tranio; Mikki Nelson, Jamestown, as Biondello; Dylan Bray, Concordia, as Hortensio/Curtis; Sam Sacco, Concordia, as Gremio; Dexter Buss, Concordia, as Pedant; David Shirkey, Concordia, as Vincentio; and Kim DeRousse, Jamestown, as the Widow.
