Cadence, an a cappella choir from Kansas State University, will perform at the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art at 2 p.m. Feb. 24 as part of the year-long centennial celebration of Marysville Chapter BB PEO Sisterhood.

The event is free and the public is invited to enjoy the music, followed by a reception with visiting, tea and cookies.
The concert will feature songs from Disney movies, songs by Frank Sinatra, Queen, and Panic! At The Disco.
All of the members of Cadence are students at Kansas State University. This year the group is made up mostly of students from Kansas, many from Manhattan and Kansas City.
One of the members is Sterling Matthew Oliver, son of Robert and Sally Oliver, Marysville.
As the group’s music manager, Oliver is in charge of selecting the songs the group will perform and finding or creating the arrangements. All arrangements in this year’s repertoire were created by members of Cadence, something important to Oliver.
“Cadence was built on the premise of never really taking ourselves too seriously,” he said. “We work hard to make sure we are able to put on a good show, but we make sure that show is a lot of fun and often includes a lot of ridiculous and funny moments.”
The singers have a variety of majors: theater and music, computer science and engineering.
They rehearse four times a week, Monday through Thursday. Leading up to concerts or special events, extra rehearsals are added.
The concert is one of a series of programs and events that recognize the local PEO chapter’s founding on April 30, 1919. Also celebrated this year is the 150th anniversary of the PEO Sisterhood, a philanthropic and educational organization founded in 1869 by seven students on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan College.
The organization has grown to a membership of 225,000 women in 6,000 local chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Its mission remains much the same as its founders envisioned: support for women through friendship, education and philanthropic activities.
Kansas chapters number 252 with membership of 10,500, including Chapter BB, which has members in Marysville, Blue Rapids, Waterville and Hanover; Chapter AN Frankfort; and Chapter EJ Washington.
